Frequently asked questions / FAQ

If I would like to make an appointment for a consultation, who do I contact? Open

You can find the EFAFLEX sales representative responsible for you on our website under the menu item “Sales Germany” by entering your zip code. Outside Germany, you can obtain the necessary contact details under “International presence” by selecting your country. Our experts will provide you with competent advice on all EFAFLEX high-speed doors, regardless of whether you need a spiral door, a roll-up door or a folding door. Of course, you will also receive information on prices, technical options, suitable equipment packages and regular maintenance of your high-speed doors.

What are high-speed doors? Open

High-speed doors are industrial doors that open and close at particularly high speeds. They are used wherever fast material flows, energy savings and high safety requirements are needed. Typical variants are spiral doors, roll-up doors or folding doors – depending on the area of application. High-speed doors make a significant contribution to efficiency and process reliability in industry, logistics and more. Depending on the design, high-speed doors are made of robust materials such as aluminum, stainless steel or PVC or PVC-coated polyester fabric. The door leaves can be insulating, transparent or flexible. The design is complemented by safety and control technology that is tailored to the respective area of application.

How do high-speed doors work? Open

High-speed doors use powerful operators and specially developed guide systems to achieve high opening and closing speeds. Depending on the design, the door leaf is guided in a spiral, rolled up or folded. Sensors and control technology ensure precise, safe movement sequences and enable automatic opening when required.

What do high-speed doors cost? Open

The cost of a high-speed door varies greatly depending on the size, equipment, area of application and technical design. Simple models start in the lower four-figure range, while individually configured premium solutions can be correspondingly higher. Factors such as thermal insulation, safety functions or special materials also influence the price of high-speed doors. For a realistic estimate, we recommend an individual consultation.

What are the dimensions of a high-speed door? Open

The exact dimensions depend on the structural conditions, area of application and safety requirements. EFAFLEX designs each high-speed door individually for its respective application. Special solutions – for example for limited space or oversized openings – can also be implemented without any problems.

What are high-speed doors used for? Open

High-speed doors are used wherever short opening cycles, a controlled room climate and high process reliability are required. Typical areas of application include logistics, the food and pharmaceutical industries, production halls, deep-freeze warehouses and clean rooms. They are also used in escape and rescue routes and explosion-protected zones. They minimize energy losses, increase safety and speed up work processes. Thanks to their flexibility, EFAFLEX high-speed doors can be adapted precisely to industry-specific requirements.

How often do high-speed doors need to be checked? Open

How often do high-speed doors have to be inspected? High-speed doors are considered power-operated doors and are therefore subject to annual inspection in accordance with ASR A1.7 or DGUV regulation 3. The inspection must be carried out by competent persons and includes safety-relevant functions, mechanical components and control devices. Regular maintenance and testing not only increase operational safety, but also extend the service life of high-speed doors. EFAFLEX offers specially trained service technicians and individual maintenance concepts for this purpose. This ensures that your high-speed doors remain reliable and legally compliant in use over the long term.

How can EFAFLEX high-speed doors run so fast and so wear-free? Open

The fast and wear-free operation of EFAFLEX high-speed doors is based on several factors. Gentle acceleration and deceleration by frequency converters or support during opening by spring assemblies or weights are just two of them. Our S Series doors also feature wear-free door leaf guidance by means of the EFAFLEX spiral. This proven technology enables low-maintenance operation even with high load cycles and intensive use – ideal for high-speed doors in logistics and industry as well as in high-traffic production areas. Our systems therefore meet the highest requirements in terms of durability, energy efficiency and operational reliability with minimum wear.

I would like to have a look at the EFAFLEX doors in practice. Is this feasible? Open

There are two ways to do this. You can visit us at one of the numerous trade fairs, information on this can be found under the menu item “Trade fairs”. We are also happy to offer you the opportunity to visit one of our satisfied customers with the sales representative responsible for you to inspect the doors in use there. This will give you a direct impression of the quality and performance of our high-speed doors in real operation. Simply contact us – we will be happy to coordinate a suitable appointment for you.

How can I save energy by using an EFAFLEX high-speed door? Open

The fast opening and closing times of the high-speed doors minimize heat and cold loss between the interior and exterior. In addition, the excellent thermal insulation values of our new EFA-THERM slats minimize heat and cold loss when not in use. Particularly in temperature-controlled areas such as cold stores or production zones with a constant indoor climate, our insulated high-speed doors achieve significant energy savings. Depending on the area of application and door size, their use can pay off economically after just a short time – both in new buildings and when refurbishing existing industrial doors.

What is the U value? Open

The U-value, also known as the heat transfer coefficient, is a measure of the heat flow through a single or multi-layer material layer when different temperatures are present on both sides. It indicates the amount of energy that flows through an area of 1 m² in one second if the air temperatures on both sides differ by 1 K in a stationary state. The higher the heat transfer coefficient, the poorer the thermal insulation properties of the material.
Thanks to the innovative EFA-THERM slats, our EFA-SST high-speed spiral door achieves U-values of up to 0.7 W/m²K (depending on the curtain). This makes our insulated high-speed doors ideal for energy-efficient building envelopes and for use in temperature-controlled areas. In combination with short opening cycles and intelligent control, EFAFLEX high-speed doors actively contribute to reducing operating costs.

Can I have my EFAFLEX doors designed in our corporate colors? Open

This depends on the door type. In principle, the doors can be customized in terms of colour. For example, the slats of the EFA-SST can be powder-coated in almost any color from the RAL system. This means that EFAFLEX high-speed doors can be seamlessly adapted to your corporate design, whether indoors, in public spaces or at highly frequented industrial entrances. Custom-made products in the form of printed hangings are also available on request.

What is the maximum size of my EFAFLEX high-speed door? Open

This depends on the door type. Some of our doors can be produced with maximum widths of 10 meters and maximum heights of 8 meters. Our high-speed spiral doors offer a reliable solution, particularly for large industrial openings (e.g. in logistics, vehicle construction or heavy industry). Despite their size, EFAFLEX high-speed doors impress with their high opening speeds, energy efficiency and operational reliability.

Do you also have horizontally opening doors in your product range? Open

Our high-speed folding doors from the F Series open horizontally. This has the advantage that the full clearance height is immediately completely free. These horizontal high-speed doors are particularly suitable for applications with low ceiling heights or confined spaces. Like all EFAFLEX high-speed doors, the folding doors also offer maximum opening speed, high safety standards and are available with special equipment packages on request.

Are high-speed doors suitable for escape routes? Open

Not generally. There have already been individual approvals, but these depend very much on the application, the environment and local regulations. Before using a high-speed door in escape routes, please contact us and the inspecting institutions in advance. For certain application scenarios, we offer high-speed doors that can meet the requirements for escape and rescue routes. We will be happy to support you in the planning and selection of suitable high-speed doors for escape routes.

Are EFAFLEX high-speed doors also available in special versions (e.g. for explosion-proof rooms)? Open

EFAFLEX offers special solutions for special requirements. For example, the EFA-SST is available in a version that meets all standards for explosion-protected areas. These special high-speed doors from the EX sSeries are designed in accordance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and can be used in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. EFAFLEX also offers other special versions, for example for the pharmaceutical industry, the deep-freeze sector or clean rooms, which are each tailored to industry-specific requirements.

What is a crash system? Open

Crash systems reduce the damage caused by collisions. With our EFA-SRT® Soft Touch, the lower part of the door leaf is pushed out of its guides on both sides. The system is particularly suitable for high-traffic areas, such as intralogistics or forklift traffic, where there is a high risk of crashes. The crash system not only increases the service life of the high-speed door, but also minimizes downtimes and repair costs.

What is the difference between opening and door leaf speed? Open

The maximum door leaf speed describes the speed that can be reached during the opening process. The standard, factory-set opening speed, on the other hand, describes the average speed at which the door opens. The gentle acceleration and deceleration made possible by the frequency converter results in an acceleration along the same curve, from which an average speed is derived. This differentiation is particularly important for industrial applications in which a fast material flow combined with high operational reliability is crucial. EFAFLEX high-speed doors combine maximum door leaf speed with intelligent control, enabling efficient, low-wear processes in industry and logistics.

How does the automatic emergency actuation work? Open

With automatic emergency operation, the door is moved towards the upper end position by the tension force of the springs or by the weights after the hand lever is actuated. This allows the door to be opened and passed through even in the event of a power failure. This system is particularly relevant for high-speed doors in escape routes or in safety-relevant areas where uninterrupted access can be vital. EFAFLEX offers this function as standard on many high-speed doors.

Can a pedestrian door also be integrated into my EFAFLEX high-speed door? Open

This depends on the door type. Some of our doors, such as the EFA-SFT, can be fitted with an integrated pedestrian door. For other door types, such as the EFA-SST, adjacent pedestrian doors are available. If you are interested, please contact your local sales representative. These solutions are ideal for areas with separate traffic flows of people and vehicles, especially in logistics or production. As a manufacturer of high-speed doors, we offer flexible customization options to best meet both safety and architectural requirements.

What are EFA-THERM laths? Open

The innovative EFA-THERM laths are double-walled and thermally separated. Depending on the thickness of the laths (the EFA-THERM laths are available in different thicknesses of 40, 60, 80 and 100 mm), the doors achieve excellent thermal insulation values of up to 0.7 W/m²K. The EFA-THERM laths are available for our EFA-SST high-speed spiral door. They are ideal for applications where energy efficiency plays a key role, such as insulated high-speed doors in the deep-freeze sector, in temperature-controlled halls or in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

What are EFA-CLEAR laths? Open

EFA-CLEAR laths are transparent slats made of acrylic glass. These are also available in a double-walled and thermally separated version and can therefore contribute to the thermal insulation of the door. The EFA-CLEAR laths are available for our EFA-SST high-speed spiral door. Thanks to their high transparency, they enable optimum use of daylight and unobstructed lines of sight – a clear advantage in logistics centers, production halls and highly frequented areas. The combination of light transmission and energy efficiency makes EFA-CLEAR laths the ideal solution for modern high-speed doors with functional requirements.

What is the effect of weight compensation using springs or weights? Open

The springs or weights support the motor when opening the door. They also ensure that the doors can be opened even in the event of a power failure once the hand lever has been actuated. The counterbalance reduces the mechanical load and thus increases the service life of the operator – particularly in the case of high-speed industrial doors. This technology is essential for the reliable operation of high-speed doors in escape routes, logistics centers and other safety-critical areas.

What does a frequency converter do? Open

A frequency converter ensures that the door runs more slowly in the end positions. The gentle acceleration and deceleration ensures that the door runs gently and therefore has a longer service life. For high-speed doors with a high opening frequency in particular, the frequency converter ensures low-wear operation and significantly reduces maintenance intervals. This technology is installed as standard in EFAFLEX high-speed doors and makes a significant contribution to the cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency of our door systems.
